Wind Surfing

Surf Zone has now opened it´s new school on the island of Boa Vista! Located in front of the Riu Hotel, it is proving to be a great new experience for windsurfers. With clean side off winds, a reef close by and little water traffic, this is quite possibly going to be as good as it gets.

Depending on the swell and the wind, the area in front of the schools will offer a mix of flat water days and wavey days. Clients will also be welcome to take their equipment to other locations on the island, should they desire to do so.

The feedback we have had from windsurfers is excellent, with many claiming that this is the "best spot they have ever windsurfed!". 

The School will be equipped with the latest 2009 Fanatic Windsurf boards and 2009 North Sails.

Boards will range from 77L to 160L

The Style range: Free Wave, Eagle, Hawk, Shark and Viper

Sails will range in size from: 2.0 to 8.1

The Style range for the Sails will be: Ice, Natural, First and Drive Lites.

In its first year Surf Zone Boa Vista will offer Windsurfing Rentals and Lessons, as well as a limited number of surf boards for hire. Although, the School is

partnered with the Riu Hotel, it will be open to guests from outside the hotel. The school is located 5min from the airport in Boa Vista and 15min from the main town of Sal Rei.

The school will also offer limited spaces for windsurf and kitesurf storage. Storage is for one board and two sails/kites. To garuntee storage space we recommend that you pre book with us.

You are welcome to make a reservation over the internet. Pre-booking will guarantee you a board of your choice during your stay or storage space. We will require a 60% deposit prior to arrival with the rest to be paid upon arrival. Please see below a complete listing of our rental and storage prices.

If you are brining your equipment with you, there will be a number of pick up trucks avaliable at the airport upon your arrival, so do not worry about finding transport.

We do have a rescue boat on hand! The cost of rescuing any windsurfers, (rentals, storage or private windsurfers) will be between 30 and 50euros depending on how far out you are. If you would like the security of a rescue boat, please check in the team at the school. They will go through a list of guidelines of areas that are safe to windsurf, no-go areas, etc. We will rescue all windsurfers that follow these guidelines. All wind or kite surfer wanting to venture beyound rescue areas are welcome to do so, but at thier own risk.

Kite Surfing

Surf Zone Boa Vista will offer kite lessons for beginner to advanced kitesurfers. All lessons can be booked via email or on site upon arrival. Lessons will be offered in Portuguese, English, French, Spanish and Italian. The structure of lessons will be consistant with other Surf Zone locations in Cabo Verde. 

The site is also excellent for more advanced kitesurfers. Initially we will not be renting kite material, however, we will be offering limited storage, which can be booked prior to arrival. The cost of storage is 50euro a week (2kites and one board).

Foot Notes

Windsurfing

1) Insurance is for one complete rig on the water. It does cover shorebreak

2) Please use our shorebreak service to help you in and out of the shorebreak

3) Insurance does not cover wave riding or when the material is taken to other locations.

4) If you choose not to take insurance, any damage done to the material is at your own cost

5) Rescue not included (if rescue is needed due to clients own neligence than cost is to the client)

Kitesurfing

1) Min size of group is 2 people per instructor and max is 3 people.

2) Price of the lesson includes all the material and rescues (if need be)

3) The number of hours can change in relation to the size of the class

4) Kite Move on courses are only for people who have done some kitesurfing before (body dragged in deep water and knowledge of how to relauch the kite in deep water).
