In its 6th year, the Surf Zone teams members are some of the islands top Surf, Kite and Wind Surfers, competing at both the local and international level. The Surf Zone is an independent centre owned and managed by Rod Smith, who has over 20 years of surfing experience. Rod has created a friendly and enjoyable environment, with a focus on quality service and safety. The Surf Zone team live full time in Santa Maria and have surfed the coast of Sal for years. As a result the team have extensive knowledge of the surf environment and conditions. The equipment is up-dated annually with brands that have a strong and long history in the Surfing community. The zone specializes in rentals as well as instruction. The zone rents, Kite Surf and Wind Surf material as well as Surf Boards, both long term as well as short term. The Zone has a rescue boat on hand in case of an emergency. On days with off-shore wind, the Zone often uses the boat for instruction. The Surf Zone is located on the premises of the Hotel Morabeza Beach club, beside the pier. This location provides the Surf Zone with the islands best site for all water sports.
