SAL is without any doubt one of the best places in the world for windsurfing and kiteboarding. With less then 6 hours flight from Europe, you get some unbelievable and extreme sessions in glassy waves and side-offshore wind. The trade wind is blowing the whole year from North/East. During the wintertime the wind blows with an average of 18/24 knots. In the summertime with 13/15 knots. The air temperature has an average of 28C° and the water about 23C°. The waves are glassy and till 3/6 meter high. But SAL is not only for experts. It’s enough to move some kilometers to find smaler waves or sandy ground. The wind blows slightly offshore at the beginning of the bay and becomes slightly onshore at the end. The most safe place to start is the Bay of Santa Maria where our Surfstation is located. Here you have the 5 km long sandy beach with no rocks or sharp objects.
